The BAföG and social counselling service is open to all students at Hochschule Bremen for free. In our offices at Neustadtswall, Werderstraße and ZIMT you can get comprehensive advice on BAföG, international BAföG, student loans, study place issues and many other questions about studying.
All consultations and enquiries will be treated confidentially. The BAföG and social counselling service is part of the AStA and therefore completely independent of the Studierendenwerk.
Before the 3rd exam attemptt?
Unfortunately, we often encounter students in our counselling sessions who have failed a module examination a third time. They then not only have to discontinue their studies here at Hochschule Bremen, but are also blocked from studying this subject nationwide for the rest of their lives. So don’t let it get to that point! It’s better to seek help before your third attempt, then you’ll have more options than afterwards. Even though there is compulsory counselling in the faculties before the third attempt, they often only talk about the content of the exam. You can find more tips on how to deal with exam situations on this page.
Master’s programme places
You have (almost) completed your Bachelor’s degree but have not been offered a place on a master’s programme? Maybe taking legal action still offers you the chance to get the highly coveted Master’s programme place after all. Information on when and what to do can be found at the Bremen Administrative Court. Pay special attention to the deadlines mentioned in the document under points 2 and 5! It has already happened with Master’s admissions that notifications were sent out so late that some deadlines had expired. If your Master’s application extends into September and you are afraid of being rejected, you should take action before 10th September and submit an overcapacity application as a preventive measure, as described in the letter from the Administrative Court. The deadline for Master’s applications for the summer semester is 10th March.
The AStA of the University of Bremen has also dealt with this issue.
All about housing
When looking for a room, a look at the Student Services (Studierendenwerk) website can help. Private rooms in shared flats are often advertised on the so called Schwarzes Brett at bremen.de . The Wohnen für Hilfe project, which is supported by the AStA, also offers some free rooms.
In special cases only, students are able to claim housing benefit, a list of these exceptions can be found here . In Bremen, applications must be submitted to the Office for Housing (Amt für Wohnungswesen).
The Tenants Help Tenants (Mieter helfen Mieter) association offers expert legal advice and legal protection for all tenancy-related problems for a fair membership fee.
